BLVD Gallery presents |
Ray Noland |
BLVD Gallery is proud to present two artists whose art has an impressive sense of balance, a calming quality that is no doubt a result of both being not only talented painters but accomplished graphic designers as well. New York based Jill Simonsens work explores the journey of both relationships and disconnection. Using inorganic elements rendered in a graphic style, the work represents various situations common to all of us. Inspired by the people around her and how they have developed and interacted with their world and each other, her paintings are both realistic and hopeful. She has exhibited her work in New York and Los Angeles, with upcoming shows in San Francisco. Ray Noland is an artist and graphic designer living in Chicago working under the alias CRO. He is also the founder & creative director of BLACKLIST a Chicago-based online magazine, highlighting under the radar operators in art, design & music. His current paintings translate his digital layering process into dimensional objects highlighting depth-of-field. Using a 2-part resin to build layers as you would in screen-printing, he replicates the serendipitous arrangements and flows of rhythm. The effect is a floating sea of juicy patterns, shapes and overlapping elements all living in a natural sense of order, suspended in time.
I am not trying to just copy traditional African aesthetic. I am trying to add a new page to the book. A digital kemet approach. Ray Noland |
